If you saw the 2015 movie Creed, you got a crash course in Philadelphia-ese, in the form of the word “jawn.” “Jawn” is basically synonymous with “noun,” but it is a noun with a bit of Philly sass. Confused about how to use it? Use it in place of literally any person, place, or thing:
“Lemme have that jawn.”
“Tiddlywinks? That’s my jawn.”
“I had to get up today at the crack of jawn.”
(I am not entirely sure about that last one, but let’s just go with it.)
Therefore, it will come as no surprise that I, as a Philly resident, am thrilled to be participating in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Jawn, on Sunday, October 30, 2016, from 1-3pm.
Hosted by Steve Bowers and Paul Miller, the head honchos at Main Line United Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Ardmore, PA, the BJJJ will be an open mat followed by a discussion and signing of my book Training Wheels: How a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Road Trip Jumpstarted my Search for a Fulfilling Life. (Click the previous link if you would like to purchase a book before the event.)
Come for training and discussion about jiu jitsu, stay for the jawn.
