Below is an excerpt from a video created by Samuel Rivera called On the Road with Valerie Worthington, in which I describe how and why I started to move toward the things in my life that I felt passionate about, even in the face of fear and doubt. Have a look, and then read more about me and why I do what I do.
Sometimes people need a sounding board when they are considering their options, particularly during times of change. They are not looking for therapy or counseling, but rather an empathetic and insightful listener who can help them reflect on what they really want and figure out how to get it. This can take the form of one-on-one conversations, group discussions, and self-paced, guided activities, all in partnership with a competent, qualified helping professional, like me.
I have been a good listener since I was very young. I am genuinely interested in people, in learning their stories and helping them meet their goals, and I am able to make connections and identify patterns that can provide individuals with additional insight. Throughout the years, I have had numerous opportunities to do so as an educational psychologist, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor and coach, author, instructional designer, and teacher. This is because when people step outside their comfort zones, as they often must to learn something new, they may need time and space to process. In other words, they may need perspective and support as they integrate new learning and new insights.
After many years of coaching students, athletes, and academic and business colleagues, I became a board-certified life coach (BCC). This was the next logical step in my commitment to supporting others in their pursuit of fulfilling lives, bringing additional theory and best practice to my efforts.
I know firsthand how challenging it can be to balance our priorities, because I am committed to doing so in my own life as well. For all these reasons, I am confident I can help you maximize the fulfillment, passion, and balance in your life. Please explore my services and contact me for more information about how. I look forward to hearing from you!
